Who are we?

Centre du Sablon offers a variety of sporting, community, and cultural leisure activities for people of all ages and all levels. We offer a pre-kindergarten program, a summer, winter, and spring day camp, and many activities for all. Our facilities include a 25-meter indoor pool, gymnasium, and aerobic room, as well as Sablon Fit with more than 50 ultra-modern fitness equipment. You can sign up for many physical and sports activities that meet the needs your needs. Among the social and community activities, we find cultural activities, a volunteer program, the Seniors’ club, special events such as the Haunted House on Halloween and the Tax Clinic for those who qualify.

All of these activities aim to contribute to the development of participants’ physical, psychological, intellectual, personal, and social skills in order to help them grow and equip them to become autonomous and responsible citizens. Thus, Centre du Sablon is a place of gathering, sharing, and support where each user finds a harmonious living environment.

Centre du Sablon also works in collaboration with several local and regional organizations and partners to enrich community services. 

History and Mission

Its first vocation, that of the Jewish Y, firmly positioned it as the community center of Chomedey Laval. Its original mission also established it as a meeting place for multicultural communities.

In 1992, when the city of Laval bought the building and appointed La Corporation du Centre du Sablon to manage its destinies, the center retained its status as a host place for the Chomedey ethnic community. The multiethnic belonging is illustrated by a very colorful division of our clientele. 

Centre du Sablon continues its mission to serve the local and regional population by offering leisure activities of a sporting, aquatic, community, and cultural nature. In addition, we take advantage of as many opportunities as possible to create events that promote the development of the social fabric by allowing users, visitors, employees, and volunteers appreciate each other. The most distinctive feature of the Centre du Sablon is its multicultural portrait, where people from diverse ethnic communities live side by side in great harmony.

Our Mandate

Centre du Sablon (CDS), a charitable organization, pursues the following objectives:

1. Promote the integral development of the individual, support families and empower citizens in their local community through community recreation, community action and cultural and popular education.

2. Interact with local citizens, organizations and associations.

3. Bring people together during leisure time, creating a living environment within a physical framework.

4. Contribute to family development by encouraging openness and autonomy.

5. Enable its populations, grouped by age sector and field of activity, to have access to the main forms of leisure, community and cultural action, and popular education, in order to maintain healthy lifestyles.

We have close to 150 000 people who use our facilities. Our members participate in a wide range of communal, cultural, and sport related activities.
