Camp Chief

Responsibilities

Under the authority of the Day Camp Coordinator, the Camp Leader:

  • Participates in the preparation and planning of day camp activities
  • Participates in the registration process for the program
  • Maintains cordial relationships with children registered in the program, their parents or guardians
  • Ensures the safety of the animators and children
  • Prepares, assists, and leads department meetings as needed
  • Participates in the evaluation of staff with the Camp Coordinator
  • Controls the inventory of materials from the beginning to the end of the camp
  • Ensures that various required reports are completed
  • Reports any observed anomalies to their immediate superior
  • Answers phone calls and checks messages
  • Verifies the attendance of youth at various day camp activities
  • Manages the replacement of staff and volunteers in case of absence
  • Coordinates and motivates their work team
  • Replaces a colleague as needed
  • Mandatory participation in training sessions when they take place
  • Completes the monitor’s personal records upon hiring and submits documents to the Camp Coordinator

Conditions

  • Seasonal full-time position (40 hours) from June 26, 2023 to August 25, 2023
  • Start date in early May
  • Salary: Starting at $20/hour
  • Must be available for some evenings and one weekend between May and June for training

Requirements

  • 18 years old and above
  • Bilingualism (excellent French and English, spoken and written)
  • Hold a certificate in CPR and first aid
  • No criminal record
  • Experience with children
  • Management experience
  • Knowledge of the Office Suite and ability to learn other software
  • 2 years of experience in day camps
  • Motivation and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Respect for peers
  • Punctuality and attendance
  • Interpersonal skills and courtesy
  • Judgment and sense of responsibility
  • Ability to work well under pressure

    Counselor in training (CIT) leader

    Responsibilities

    Under the authority of the Day Camp Coordinator, the MEFs Manager:

    • Plans, organizes, leads, and evaluates day camp activities.
    • Assists and participates in meetings and training sessions.
    • Maintains the equipment and activity areas in good condition.
    • Checks, verifies, installs, and stores equipment before/after each activity.
    • Reports any anomalies to their immediate superior.
    • Fills out incident and accident reports.
    • Replaces colleagues as needed.
    • Communicates with staff members who have CITs under their responsibility.
    • Leads and manages the CIT program under the supervision of the camp coordinator.
    • Acts as a mentor and provides ongoing support to the CITs.
    • Conducts thematic meetings for CITs during the theoretical part of the program.
    • Supervises and evaluates the CITs as a group.
    • Assigns CITs to groups based on their age and interests.
    • Plans the schedules for the CITs and knows where they are at all times.
    • Plans events for staff and CITs.
    • Standardizes and optimizes procedures for welcoming the kids.

    Requirements

    • Bilingualism (excellent spoken and written French and English)
    • Completed or in progress CEGEP
    • No criminal record
    • Valid first aid and CPR
    • 1 year of experience with children aged 5 to 15 years
    • Aptitude for working with teenagers
    • Motivation and organizational skills
    • Attendance and punctuality
    • Interpersonal skills and courtesy
    • Good judgment and sense of responsibility and organization
    • Day camp experience an asset

    Conditions

    • Full-time seasonal position (40 h) from June 26, 2023, to August 25, 2023
    • Starting in early June
    • Salary starting at $17/hour
    • Must be available for some evenings and one weekend between May and June for training
